Welcome.

Life’s journey has taken me on unexpected detours and I have been blessed to find unlikely heroes in unexpected places. Being the only civilian in our close-knit family of 5, my favorite heroes are close to my heart. Throughout the journey, our faith has been the guiding force for our family, the foundation upon which we have built our lives. We thank God for the abundant goodness and grace that surrounds us and we want our lives to reflect the Light that lives in us.

“Life is a journey, and love is what makes that journey worthwhile” -Unknown.

Love is a word that we use very often. We love our family. We love football. We love our car. We love Starbucks coffee. We love our dog. But what is love?  What does the word love really mean?

One of the best definitions of love that I have found is in book of 1 Corinthians, chapter 13.

It reads, starting in verse 4:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

I believe that our highest calling as citizens of planet earth is the call to love. The world needs more love, especially during these times of political division and global uncertainty. In the 22nd chapter of the book of Matthew, we are given 2 charges: (1st) to love the Lord God with all our heart, soul and mind. And (2nd) to love each other as we love ourselves.

It is sometimes hard to love others. It is sometimes hard to even love ourselves. Let’s find comfort in knowing that God loves us. We are worthy and lovable, regardless of how we feel. Feelings are unreliable and have no bearing on whether or not we are loved. What others have said or done has no bearing on our worthiness. We are lovable, in all our imperfections, we are lovable. After all, God is love, He loves us with an everlasting love, and His love never fails.

Once we understand that we are loved unconditionally, we are invited to participate in a love ministry…we are called to spread love like dandelions, to share it…with each other, with our families, with our friends, with our coworkers, with our neighbors, with a stranger.

Let us be patient, kind, and forgiving. Let us rejoice in the truth. Let us put aside selfishness, pride and anger. May everything we do be motivated by love.

“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”- 1 John 4:16.
